How to integrate Group Doorman with EmailOctopus

To integrate EmailOctopus with Group Doorman, you’ll need to install our Chrome extension for the group you’re currently managing. You’ll also need an EmailOctopus account.

Adding EmailOctopus to Group Doorman integrations

1. Let’s kick things off by opening Group Doorman and navigating to the Manage groups tab (1). Once you’re there, simply click on the +Add integration button (2) and you’ll be well on your path to setting up your integration seamlessly.

2. Next, take a look at the list of integrations that are available, scroll down, find EmailOctopus, and click on it.

3. When you opt for EmailOctopus, a setup form will appear. At this stage, you have two options: either create a new account or choose an existing one if you’ve used EmailOctopus before. Pick the option that best suits you!

4. To get started, access your EmailOctopus profile. Simply click on your profile (1) located in the upper-right corner of the page, then locate the Integrations & API tab (2) in the dropdown menu and click on it.

5. On the Settings page, you’ll come across the Developer tools section. Click on the Manage button within the API field to generate your API Key.

6. Next, simply click on the Create Key button when it appears.

7. Now, enter a name for the API Key (1) and click on the Create button (2).

8. Your API key is now set and ready to go! You’ll see it displayed in a pop-up message. Simply click on the Copy button to use it for the Group Doorman integration. It’s also a good idea to download your API Key – having a local backup of your key is always wise in case you need it later on.

9. Go to the Group Doorman form and paste your API Key into the corresponding field.

10. Return to EmailOctopus and locate the Lists tab (1) in the header. Give it a click to proceed. Then, on the Lists page, click on the Create a list button (2).

11. Give your list a name (1) and click the Create button (2).

12. You have arrived at your list page. Click on the Settings tab (1) at the top of the page, and then locate the Copy button (2) situated beneath the ID field. Give it a click.

13. Now, let’s navigate back to the Group Doorman form. Paste the List ID that you just copied into the List ID field.

14. In the Group Doorman form, fill in the appropriate field with the name of the tag. This tag will be transferred to EmailOctopus by Group Doorman when creating a contact.

Creating a Custom field at EmailOctopus

With Group Doorman, you can post your group members’ responses to EmailOctopus using custom fields. You’ll need to indicate which response corresponds to each field. Moreover, Group Doorman can generate default custom fields for you automatically. Just click on the Create Fields for Answers button to enable this feature.

15. To manually create a custom field in EmailOctopus, navigate to the header and select the Lists tab (1). Then, choose the specific list you have previously created (2).

14. On the List page, click on the Fields tab (1), then click Add a field (2). When the drop-down is shown, select which type of field you want to create (3). Fill in the name of the field (4) and click the Save button (5).

15. In Group Doorman, there are two ways to manage custom fields. You can either select the fields created in EmailOctopus (1) or create new fields instantly (2). If you’ve made any changes to the fields in EmailOctopus, choose the option to refresh the fields (3). Once you have finished managing, simply click on Save and close button (4).
